Melissa Robin: Alchemy

alchemyimagesLight – harvested by darkness,
Perpetuated by its counterpart,
Dissecting duality, penetrating polarity.
Fire, Water, Earth, & Air
Divine elemental orchestration,
The unrequited energy of the unseen,
Composing us akin the Cosmos,
Tethered to Humanity at the seams.

For the past five years, as a photographer, Melissa has chased her passions to the bottom of the sea.  Undoubtedly an endless abyss of curiosities have been documented and represented by her lense, however for this show, Robin decided it was time to pay tribute to the elements that encompass her day to day.

Windows on Main winner Yali Lewis: Sticks & Stones

setting 3

Sticks and Stones brings together a selection of recent works by Yali Lewis. Some of the works become ornate settings for the humblest of pebbles, while others explore the facets of the most famous and valuable gemstones in the world. Geometric abstraction stylistically unifies the subjects–no matter how precious or how abject–but an uneasy juxtaposition remains evident.

Many of the works on display were begun earlier this summer at Haystack’s Open Studio Residency. The colors and textures of the Maine coastline weave through the paintings, as do bits of flotsam and jetsam collected on daily walks.
